It was a beautiful spring day for the approximately 700 students who participated in the 10th anniversary of Running is Elementary on April 30, 2018. Prior to the April 30 meet, students trained in a 6-week program at their home school. Students focused on health and fitness, benefits of physical activity, and proper ways to prepare for a run. The annual non-competitive, 1-mile event is free for all 4th- and 5th-grade P-H-M student because of generous donations through Corporations for Education, the business division of the P-H-M Education Foundation.
Running is Elementary is the brainchild of Horizon Physical Education Teacher and 2009 P-H-M Teacher of the Year Cindy Batalis (pictured above with RIE student participants).
